Asian Studies Major/Minor

Major in Asian Studies
10 courses (40 credits) beyond the 100 level including
- 1 course each in the South Asian and East Asian traditions

Minor in Asian Studies
5 courses (20 credits) including
- a maximum of 1 course at the 100 level
- a maximum of 2 language courses (must be at a level of 200 or above)

Minor in Hindi Language
4 courses (16 credits) above
- Hindi 101 and Hindi 102
- 4 additional courses from among the following: Hindi 201, Hindi 202, Hindi 301, Hindi 302, or an approved course in Hindi Literature. Students with previous knowledge of Hindi above the intermediate level may obtain a minor in Hindi by passing a placement test and taking three additional courses as described above.

 

* All courses must be taken for a letter grade in order to count for the major or minor.
* Students are strongly encouraged to have a minimum of four semesters in an Asian language by the time they complete the requirements for the major.
* Courses offered by other departments on Asian topics can be counted the major, if approved by the student's advisor.
* Courses cannot be counted twice to fulfill a major or minor other than Asian Studies.


To declare the major or minor, stop by the Asian Studies office at 1385 Oxford Rd. in the ICIS/CIPA building. We are on the first floor in room 102. You can also visit Dr. Rakesh Ranjan in S304B Callaway Center. You will be instructed to fill out a declaration form, which will then go to the Registrar.
