The
South Asian Studies Program at Emory University includes faculty members with research and teaching specialties in South Asia from various disciplines, including
Music, English, Dance, Religion, Comparative Literature, Economics, Political Science, and
International Relations. The program includes 3 faculty members whose sole specialty is Hinduism,
2 full-time Hindi instructors, 1 full-time Sanskrit instructor, and
3 artist affiliates in Kuchipudi dance, Carnatic vocal and sitar. Through
the Halle Institute, Asian Studies has hosted 3 distinguished Visiting Fellows to Emory
from India:
Raj Mohan Gandhi (scholar, political commentator, and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi
Jairam Ramesh (Secretary of the Economic Affairs Department of the Congress Party in New Delhi, political analyst, columnist for India Today and the Times of India, and economic advisor to the Congress Party)
Sona Khan (an attorney at law before the Indian Supreme court and an outspoken advocate on women's rights and human rights in India).
