September 12 - October 17, 8pm, Wednesday nights, White Hall 205, Tibetan Film Festival.

Friday, October 19, 7:30 - 10pm, Carlos Reception Hall: Concert by Tibetan Singer/Songwriter Techung. Techung will be joined by musicians Sonam Lhamo, Tsering Phuntsok, and Tenzin Kalsang. Tickets are free, but required, and available for pick up in the Office of Educational Programs at the Carlos Museum, Monday-Friday from 8:30 am - 5 pm. Event currently sold out!

Saturday, October 20 - Monday, October 22, Dalai Lama, "Educating the Heart and Mind: A Path to Universal Responsibility." Events sponsored by the Emory-Tibet Partnership can be found at www.tibet.emory.edu.

The South Asian Studies Program at Emory University offers undergraduate and graduate courses in various disciplines including Music, English, Dance, Religion, Comparative Literature, Economics, Political Science, Anthropology, and International Relations. Hindi and Sanskrit are currently offered through the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies. The program also includes three artist affiliates in Kuchipudi dance, Carnatic vocal and sitar. South Asian Studies Library Holdings include more than 11,000 books, more than 100 journals and reference books and government documents, as well as numerous audio-visual and digital documents.

South Asian Studies offers:

  • An undergraduate major and minor
  • Study abroad programs in Mysore City and Dharamsala
  • A doctoral program in South Asian religions, joining the ranks of the few major university centers in the country for the study of South Asian religions
  • Faculty study trips to India sponsored by the Halle Institute at Emory
  • The Carlos Museum permanent exhibit, The Arts of India and the Himalayas, and pieces from 3rd c. Gandharan to 12th c. Gujarat
  • Public events, open to and/or sponsored with members of the South Asian community, including film festivals, music and dance concerts and lectures, photography and art exhibits, and poetry readings.
